Sometimes we need little bit more to see and to believe…
“The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a great example of it- The story is philosophical and includes social criticism, remarking on the strangeness of the adult world.
And it made me think of Unicorns because like the magic of little Prince story i find that Unicorns too are about believing more than there is to be seen from first place. Also i like the fact that both of them have innocent childish approach but are popular among grown up-s.
Although my first attention to magical unicorn is all a fault of the Salvador Dali. As a big fan of his creation since teenager, his unicorns and something he told about them made me want to paint unicorns so badly. So I did.
The alphabet idea started when I saw the Kamasutra alphabet by Malika Favre and I got obsessed by type design.
Something had to come out from this. My head was struggling but thinking of glyphs with Unicorns all the time in some reason. It was just an idea in my head but it all looked too tacky and wrong in real. I did hundreds of drawing to figure out the shapes..
my head was stuck but I did not gave up.
I remember sitting in the pub close to home with a friend who sometimes gives me free paper from his printing company and I was showing him my terrible drawings with alphabet what has unicorn heads. Then went home and it was just sudden flash in my head when I sat town to the computer and made the typeface with one go.
like a magic
After I finished with Z and woke up next day I felt odd as I did not remember doing it. But the alphabet was there...
